Parties are a normal part of every government. They are used to help the government to organize the society in order to have the best opportunity for its growth. If you want to understand the importance of a party in a country, you must know that there are three categories of parties. They are the national, regional and local parties. If we talk about each one separately, you can easily understand their function and importance.

In most of the federal elections, parties play an important role. These parties usually have a monopoly, meaning they share all the political influence in the entire country. Generally speaking, most constitutional country states have at least two parties. The most prominent democratic party in US is the Democratic Party.

National parties are the majoritarian party that rules the entire country and is responsible for making law according to which all the other parties operate. The national party usually decides the constitution and the rules in the elections. They appoint the prime minister and other Ministers who implement the decisions of the government in the parliament. Generally, in the majority of the constitutional country states, the national party controls the whole parliament. The federal government and the states have no control over the election process.

Regional parties are majoritarian parties in which they have their own share of authority. In most of the cases, the regional parties are in alliance with the national parties. There are two kinds of regional parties, namely first-past-the-post system and proportional voting system. In most of the countries, there is first-past-the-post system where a candidate winning one percent of the vote wins the election. If the party wins more than that, it gets second place, third place or fourth place. In proportional voting system, the parties get an equal number of seats. There is no fixed number of seats for each party.

In some cases, the local parties have little influence on the decision of the national parties and are not allowed to control the Parliament directly. In such cases, the local party is represented by a regional MLA. However, this is not always the case. Some local parties can also control the parliament indirectly by getting the government jobs and holding many of the important posts in the government. Local parties, though, are still in control of some important decisions of the Parliament and are very much interested in developing the region.

Political parties are also divided into different sections. Some parties are independent, while some of them are associated with another party. Independent parties are not affiliated with any political party and are in alliance with them. They are formed by two parties or groups.
